International Partner & Advisor, Tokyo
Lawyer and businessman in Tokyo. Advises on our projects and legal work, and carries the communication with our Japanese clients — what they need, and how they expect it delivered.
What I actually do here
I'm not an engineer. I make sure the commercial and legal side of working with clients abroad — particularly in Japan — is handled the way they expect it to be, not the way it's convenient for us.
Principles
— Trust, in Japan, is built before the contract, not by it.
— Say the honest thing slowly, rather than the convenient thing quickly.
Dr. Balaram is a PHD doctorate , lawyer and businessman based in Tokyo. He advises on Koi Tech's projects and legal work, a — what they need, and how they expect it delivered.
A letter
What international clients actually worry about.
“They're not worried about your code. They're worried about whether you'll still answer the phone in year two.”
Every client I've carried a relationship with abroad has asked some version of the same question, eventually, once they trusted us enough to ask it plainly: what happens if this goes quiet? Not the pricing, not the tech stack — whether the two people who built it will still be there. Our longest relationship is now past a year, renewed without us asking. I don't think that's an accident, and I don't think a case study can prove it the way that number does.
